Wallace Line started as a commission in cooperation with Christoph Wichert talking about the diverse languages and dialects, fauna and flora of South East Asia. The Wallace Line separates the biogeographical realms of Asia and Wallacea, a transitional zone between Asia and Australia, located between Borneo and Sulawesi and Bali and Lombok. West of the line, organisms are related to Asian species; to the east, a mixture of Asian and Australian species is present. The region stands out for its exceptional richness in biodiversity.
The composition sets up taxonomic structures found in this ecological melting pot as initial time - frequency structures of the piece for bassoon and 4 channel sound system. Recordings of the bassoon and the shaping of double reeds deliver manifold soundspectra being fundamental for ‚Wallace Line‘.

The Project will focus on the metamorphic and healing qualities of the Gumby Gumby
(Umbi Umbi), a healing plant of the Gunggari People in Mitchell, in the Western Downs
of the Maranoa in Queensland.
