Tanja Brüggemann
born in Linz, Austria, Tanja Brüggemann holds degrees in piano, music theory, electronic music and composition as a student of Adriana Hölszky, Tristan Murail and Alexander Mullenbach at MOZ-University Mozarteum Salzburg as well as a postgraduate degree for film- and audiovisual studies from the Film School in cooperation with the Academy of Music in Lodz, Poland studying with Zygmunt Krauze and Krzysztof Knittel.
Tanja lives and works in Vienna, Linz as well as in the monastery of Sankt Florian/A and everywhere, her interest takes her.
She received scholarships of the Austrian government, the University Mozarteum Salzburg, the Anton Bruckner scholarship and others.
Her compositions are based on recordings of natural soundscapes, adaptions for acoustic instruments and the quest for the real and artificial in redefining acoustic phenomena.
Therefor she is in consultation with researchers and institutions such as ÖFAI-Austrian Institute for Artificial Intelligence, ÖAW-Austrian Academy of Sciences and AWI-Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research.
Commissions were performed at Musikverein Wien/A, wien modern/A, Brucknerhaus/A, MOZ University Mozarteum Salzburg Solitär/A, Kulturforum Berlin/D, musica contemporanea/I, meetingpoint messiaen/D, Musica Moderna Lodz/PL, ORF -Austrian Broadcasting Cooperation, SALT Festival Victoria/Canada, Átlátszó Hang Festival Budapest/H, Musica Nova Prague/CZ, North Stradbroke Island/Minjerriba, and Brisbane, Australia.
IEM-The Institute for Electronic Music Graz invited her to create AOA IX - an ambisonic spatial composition with 2 Doublebasses at Mumuth_ György Ligeti Hall for the Festival Signale 2019.
Latest Presentations of her music were played by flutist Sylvie Lacroix on the CD „flute extended“ recorded by Stephen Ferguson.
Her Artmovie AOA I Skizze A, which she created with the Filmmaker Susanne Hofer was nominated at Crossingeurope Filmfestival, Video:Ex Zürich, CH, See the Sound@Soundtrack Cologne, Swiss Filmfestival 2016 and Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur/CH.
REGLOS the second movie in cooperation with visual artist Conny Zenk was screened at Ars Electronica _ Deep Space Linz/ A and Kontexty Festival Sokołowsko, Pl.
During Summer 2019, Tanja started a new Cycle - T H E C A L L, searching for soundshift in patterns of communication within societies and indigenious population. With extraordinary support of the Quandamooka people and the Islanders of Minjerribah/ North Stradbroke Island, the first performance called „Already, I can hear the Island breathing“ with Vicki Kelleher took place.
In October 2020 she was invited to take part in the collective Art Installation @ AELA - Australian Earth Law Alliance Opening Exhibition in Brisbane, Queensland YIMBALI - Healing by Listening. https://vimeo.com/469358799/6c1e8698b8 with artists Renata Buziak, Leah Barclay and Vicki Kelleher and the Gunggarri Elders from Mitchell, in the Western Downs of the Maranoa in Queensland.
